The art of purging

As we are approaching spring, it is time to start planning an update for our bag collection for spring/summer.  Apart from fulfilling the necessary function of carrying our daily essentials, the 'perfect' bag has to represent who we are (expression) and our current mood, at times how we want to be perceived (persona). People are starting to have fun with their bags, be it practical or impractical, it's all about adding an edge to your overall outfit.  No longer does a bag have to stay functional and sit quietly in the background, it can also be fun and loud if one wished to make a statement.

 Make a statement, literally!

Let's face it, a bag wouldn't be called an accessory (defined in the Cambridge English dictionary as 'something added to clothing that has a useful or decorative purposeunless it is for accessorising your outfit. If you are not a big fan of wearing statement jewellery then having a statement bag would be a great alternative option.

Show it off - The interior of the bag is as important as the exterior

Take it up a notch by matching your clothes with your arm candy

Don't compromise - Just because you're relaxing by the pool, it doesn't mean you can't accessorise with style

Another fundamental trend for bags this year is the gorgeous arm candies that come in miniature size.  This trend encourages you to travel light by carrying only your essentials.  Most of us have a habit of carrying stuff that we don't need just to fill up a big bag - the bigger the bag, the more you have hauling around with you.

Mini bags encourage us to purge and eliminate items such as make-up that we hardly use or coins that we never manage to get rid of.  There's something quite liberating about this trend, it inspires us to declutter and shed the load- it's a great way to get ready for the new year ahead!
